TOKYO, Japan- Jigowatts Inc. (Headquarters: Chūō-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomoki Shibata) has released the MVP version of its new smartphone app, “Jigowatts Home”, making it the first EV charger manufacturer in Japan to enable users to remotely adjust charging output for free. By connecting with Jigowatts’ online-capable EV chargers, the app delivers breakthrough convenience and flexibility, allowing users to charge their EVs at home more safely and smartly. Jigowatts offer a special plan exclusively for detached houses in Tokyo, allowing the installation of AC charger about  ¥30,000, which this installation plan will be applicable for this new application.

Background: Power Contracts and EV Charging

In typical Japanese households, power contracts are usually limited to 40 A or 50 A. High-output EV chargers can cause circuit breakers to trip when used simultaneously with other appliances, or even necessitate increased contract amperage.

The “Jigowatts Home” app allows output adjustments in fine increments—from 6 A (1.2 kW) down to 1 A (0.2 kW)—so users can avoid both breaker trips and the hassle of renegotiating their power contracts while charging their EVs at home.

In light of the anticipated increase in EV usage and the associated strain on power supply, it’s expected that demand adjustment via controlled charging output will be needed in homes and facilities nationwide. With this in mind, Jigowatts plans to deploy its communication-enabled chargers broadly, laying the groundwork for future applications such as Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and demand response systems. The “Jigowatts Home” app represents the company’s first step toward a fully integrated charging-control platform.

Overview of the “Jigowatts Home” App

The MVP version of “Jigowatts Home”—now released—works with connected Jigowatts EV chargers and includes the following core functions:

Remote Output Adjustment: Change the charger’s output level in real-time via a smartphone, allowing flexible response to household power usage.

Charging Status Monitoring: View current charging power and progress directly within the app.

Jigowatts is offering a new installation plan for detached houses in Tokyo, where up to 6 kW capable EV chargers with communication functionality only cost ¥30,000. 

Customers opting for this “Tokyo detached houses installation plan” will also receive free access to the “Jigowatts Home” app, since the installed chargers are already equipped for online connectivity. This offering is designed to give first-time EV owners a low-cost, user-friendly way to manage high-output charging at home via their smartphone.

Planned Future Features

Jigowatts plans to expand the app’s capabilities with a series of upcoming enhancements, most of which will remain free of charge (with some premium features potentially billed):

・Scheduled Charging: Set timers for output and charging periods—ideal for automating charging during off-peak hours or when electricity rates are lower.

・Theft Prevention: Lock the charger via the app to prevent unauthorized use or illegal charging (so-called “electricity theft”).

・Family User Accounts: Allow multiple family members to share and manage the charger through the app.

・Multi-Charger Management: Register and control multiple chargers within one app—useful for households or businesses with more than one charging unit, helping avoid circuit breakers trips even during simultaneous usage.

These new features aim to enhance charging precision, security, and user experience, and position the app for broader adoption—not only in residential settings but also in offices and commercial facilities.
